Visited 46 of the continental US states

Born and raised right outside of Columbia, South Carolina, Brennan has always followed his passions in life. Discovering his love for percussion and drums in grade school, he pursued a music performance degree at the University of South Carolina. After a number of performance opportunities during his college career, such as performing in Drum Corps International from 2010–2015 and performing at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in 2012, he continued his musical journey by attaining a master’s degree in music performance at the University of North Texas. Brennan went on to teach as a band director at several band programs around the Dallas/Fort Worth area, most notably the 6A school Berkner High in Richardson, Texas, teaching both at the junior high and high school level.

The skills and passion for teaching and performing music have steered Brennan into a broader field of impacting more clientele through software development. Brennan takes pride in writing effective and efficient code that can easily be read and used by many others. Once a teacher, always a teacher, Brennan is always learning and growing to help the people around him. When he is not writing code, Brennan enjoys spending time with his wife and two cats in Denver, Colorado, hiking the Rocky Mountains, or catching the next musical artist in town.

Q

What’s your favorite thing about Up&Up?

A

Everyday is a different day, I love the team collaboration we have in the dev department.

Q

What Up&Up value do you resonate with most (win for all, purposefully excellent, radically responsible, or make it happen)?

A

Purposefully excellent, that value keeps me in check. It makes sure I’m producing the best quality of work I can.

Q

How do you bring Up&Up’s vision to uplift into your role as well as your personal life?

A

I try to present my best self both in and out of the office. I believe the values easily translate to one’s personal life and I strive to be better everyday.

Q

How did you get into your current role?

A

I transitioned from the music education field to software development. A friend of mine who works at Up&Up reached out to me about applying for some contract work for the Web department. I eventually transitioned to full-time here, and the rest is history!

Q

What gets you most excited about your job?

A

Coming up with efficient and effective solutions to problems that arise. I love finding different ways to solve problems and deducing the solution that will be the most tailored-fit.

Q

What’s your ultimate professional goal?

A

Once a teacher, always a teacher, and they are public servants. I want to help and inspire the people around me, either other programmers or the clients I work with. Whether that’s through a title like Senior SWE, or presenting at conferences, my goal is to inspire others through the medium of computer programming.
