Meet Our Summer 2019 Interns

Drumroll, please… We’ve welcomed six new faces to the Up&Up ranks, our summer 2019 interns!

At Up&Up, we challenge ourselves and each other to become the best version we can be. We host a 12-week paid internship program each summer to help passionate and eager students grow toward that goal and prepare for their future.

Say hi to Michael, Lydia, Spencer, Caroline, Warren, and Cameron! They’re diving right into helping our team with graphic design, business operations, account coordination, web development, marketing, and sales. They’re applying what they’ve learned in class to the real world to support us as we tackle higher ed’s greatest challenges. We’re excited to see what we can teach them and what they will teach us in return.

Get to know our rockstar intern team:

Michael Matheny

Account Management Intern

Michael brings a unique perspective as a first-generation college graduate to Up&Up, where he uses his love for higher ed to create lasting relationships with clients.

As an account management intern, he helps serve our partners and supports the client services and project management teams. He will also use the summer to dig into strategy and creative work.

Before graduating recently from Winthrop University, he earned experience from internships in both the higher ed space and the agency world at Jeff Dezen Public Relations, Winthrop University Marketing and Communications, and the McKissick Museum in Columbia.

In his free time, he’s enjoying the time back in his hometown. You might catch him in the production booth at the Greenville Drive, diving back into his childhood passion for theatre, or reading Harry Potter (again).

Lydia Elsey

Finance & Business Management Intern

Lydia’s curious about how a values-based business runs the show behind the scenes, making her a natural fit for Up&Up.

As the finance and business management intern, Lydia works closely with the finance and admin team to help manage the day-to-day at Up&Up and keep deadlines and priorities in check.

Lydia’s a rising senior at Mercer University University in Macon, Georgia (Go Bears!), where she studies accounting, with two minors in political science and international business.

A Greenville native, she’s excited to return to the land of Southern food after studying abroad in Strasbourg, France. Lydia made the most of her time by exploring 14 other countries in just four months. She found her now favorite spots—Lake Bled in Slovenia and the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. This summer, she’ll take her travels stateside by exploring new places on weekend trips.

Spencer Johnson

Sales & Marketing Intern

Spencer hopes to make higher education a better place for all students and sees Up&Up as the perfect place to fuel his drive.

As the business development intern, Spencer helps the team grow our client base. He also builds strategies for Up&Up sales regions, conferences, and events. Recently, Spencer was able to learn about corporate sales and sponsorship during an internship with Coastal Carolina Athletics.

After growing up in a small local town, Belton, Spencer made his way to Coastal Carolina University where he will start his senior year in the fall. On the weekends, you may see him cheering on the Clemson Tigers at football games, playing golf, or spending time with his friends and family.

Caroline Moore

Graphic Design Intern

Caroline wants to help students across the country find the right college fit for them through design.

After growing up in Charlotte and later Greenville, she’s made her way back home to join the Up&Up creative team. She’ll help out with digital and print design while learning the basics of thoughtful web design.

Caroline’s a rising senior at the University of South Carolina with a major in visual communications and a minor in media arts. She gained experience by serving as the art editor for the USC marketing and public relations team. Caroline’s already looking forward to the fall semester—she will design for the Carolina Agency, the student-run fully USC public relations agency, as well as Intercom magazine, the student-produced alumni magazine of the College of Information and Communications.

Outside of the office, she’s on the hunt in thrift stores, scoring new pieces to sell on her online clothing closet. Caroline also makes short films with her friends, and they’ve already snagged three awards for their comedy shorts.

Warren Coppage

Digital Marketing Intern

Warren wants to help students like himself find the best higher education fit through digital marketing.

As the digital marketing intern, Warren helps manage all things SEO and SEM. He’s excited to grow in the field and learn from experienced professionals during his first internship.

Warren’s wrapping up his bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing at Lander University this fall. While he currently lives in a local town, Greenwood, Warren has called many places home. He spent his childhood in Kentucky and then attended high school in Chapin, South Carolina.

Outside of work, you can find Warren wakeboarding and jet skiing at the lake with friends. He also spends his free time hitting the gym and the pool or catching up on Marvel comics and movies.

Cameron Washick

Development Intern

Cameron sees everything he loves to do as a form of storytelling.

As the web development intern at Up&Up, Cameron focuses on channeling that through the development of front-end layouts and features for client websites. He’s most excited about growing both personally and professionally this summer in a place with a strong work culture (we swear we didn’t make him say that).

Born and raised in Greenville, he’s the middle of three brothers. And despite growing up in a Gamecock family, Cameron went rogue and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Clemson University.

In his free time, Cameron continues to listen to and tell stories through animation, filmmaking, improv, sketch comedy, and playing Dungeons & Dragons.
